Local cancer care for all
Each year in Taranaki, over 600 people are diagnosed with cancer1. That is over 600 families that will have their lives turned upside down. Cancer is the leading cause of death in New Zealand, and with an ageing population, the impact of cancer is going to increase.
The Taranaki Cancer Centre will be a state-of-the-art facility that will offer a range of cancer treatments under one roof, including Radiotherapy. Taranaki residents will no longer need to rely solely on trips to Palmerston North for their life saving treatment. Instead the majority of patients will be able to be treated locally.

As part of the redevelopment of Taranaki Base Hospital, a new, purpose built cancer centre is being developed for the region. This facility will give the people of Taranaki access to leading Cancer Care, while having minimal impact on their life.
The stand-alone building is aiming to be 5 star Greenstar certified to ensure it has minimal environmental impact while bringing the best care to the region.
