Waterworks is a New Zealand family-owned, national importer and distributor of pipeline products founded on three principles:
- To care for the Waterworks team and their families.
- To go the extra mile to care for our valued clients.
- To care and support our communities wherever we can.
With these principles, it was an easy decision for Waterworks to support the construction of the new East Wing at Taranaki Base Hospital. Their donation of $100,000 will provide much-needed enhancements to the state-of-the-art Rapid Relief Team ICU, due to open in 2025.
Waterworks is a New Zealand, privately owned family business, that has its beginnings in an engineering firm started in 1980 by the founder Graeme Thomas in his garage at home. From these small humble beginnings, in the 1990s, the organisation then evolved to become a leading designer, supplier and installer of pumping and pipeline systems. Today the company is managed by the second generation of the Thomas family, with several of the third generation heavily involved in the business supplying pipeline products throughout New Zealand, being involved in some of New Zealand’s largest infrastructure projects. Despite substantial growth over 40+ years, the Thomas family have never lost sight of those values of care and support that the company was built on, and wherever possible they give back to the wider community. “The whole Waterworks team get huge satisfaction in being able to support these critical projects in our community. It is the reason for doing what we do every day”, says Jason Thomas, Waterworks Director and National Sales Manager.
Supporting the wider community
The $100,000 the organisation is donating to the Rapid Relief Team ICU is not the first time Waterworks have supported the Taranaki Health Foundation. In 2020, they donated $5,000 to Taranaki’s Neonatal department for a new Babyleo incubator, providing critical equipment for some of the most vulnerable members in our community. This incubator was urgently required to replace old equipment that was being retired. They have also made substantial donations over the years to many other charities including, the Taranaki Volunteer Coastguard, Foodbank, Taranaki Retreat, Taranaki Rescue Helicopter, and The Cancer Society, plus many other organisations as part of their vision to care and support for communities.
“Being able to donate to the Taranaki Health Foundation and support the construction of this new world-class facility, allowed us to give back and support the communities we live in”, says Daniel Thomas, Waterworks Director and Finance Manager. “It was an easy decision after a number of friends and family have required care in the current ICU facilities.”
The Rapid Relief Team ICU will provide Taranaki with a leading world-class facility for our most critically ill patients. The unit will have 18 individual rooms for enhanced patient privacy, a large central nurses station with clear views of all rooms and facilities for whānau and support people.
“We firmly believe that collectively we are stronger,” says Martin Thomas, Waterworks Director and CEO. “It was an easy decision to support this project as the positive impact to our community will be so far reaching.”
Waterworks’ $100,000 donation makes them silver sponsors of the Rapid Relief Team ICU. The Taranaki Health Foundation is incredibly grateful for their support, as well as the support of many other local businesses and individuals.
