A cancer diagnosis raises many questions.
Where you receive treatment should never be one of them.

The words no one wants to hear

Hearing the words “you have cancer” is a life changing moment. Whether being said to you or a loved one, it impacts your outlook on life and raises serious questions. "Where will I receive my treatment?" should never be one of those questions.

For many years, people in Taranaki have had to make a long journey to Palmerston North for many weeks for their cancer treatment, and stayed away from the family while going through one of the most stressful times in their lives.

The Taranaki Cancer Centre will provide chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment for the majority of Taranaki people. With your support, we can make sure the Taranaki Cancer Centre is the best it can be.

What will I do without my dad?

Anna's dad was diagnosed with cancer twice. Once when she was a child which he survived, and again as an adult. This second diagnosis opened up more questions to Anna, but none of those questions where “Where will me dad receive his treatment?” or “can I be with him at his treatment?”.

The Taranaki Cancer Centre will mean these questions don't have to be asked, with the majority of treatments able to be made locally. Your donation will make it the best it can be.

Will my Cancer return?

8 years ago, Josh experienced a big black cloud descending on his life. He received the news he had Hodgkin Lymphoma and would need to receive a combination of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. Naturally he was worried how serious it was.

Living walking distance from the hospital, Josh didn’t think he would have to worry about how to get to his treatment. But with Radiotherapy being in Palmerston North, Josh had to spend time in another region to receive his treatment.

What support will they need?

When a member of Kelly’s staff told her he had been diagnosed with cancer, her first thought was how can the business support them during their treatment.

The Taranaki Cancer Centre is going to mean that families can be there to support the person going through treatment. It is a big part of your life that is put on hold. If you can be treated locally, you can get on with your life.

Will I be able to have children?

As a young male, a testicular cancer diagnosis makes you ask many questions. How serious is it? Will it be possible to have children? Malachi didn't expect to have to also travel to Palmerston North to receive his treatment.

The facilities their are fantastic - but nothing is as comfortable as being in your own home. Add to this the added stress of traveling back and forth, there is no substitute for local treatment.

How will I tell my family?

Warren was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer in 2019. His first concern was how this would impact his work. He second concern was how it would affect his diet.

Being able to be treated locally to his support network was vital. Having friends and family there to suport him emotionally and physically made a huge difference and meant he could focus on his recovery.
